Cleansing by Smudging

Smudging using Sage Leaf bundles or Incense Sticks

Smudging is also a common method used to cleanse or re-tune crystals.  This is a popular method that also uses materials that should be easily found in specialty shops or on the internet.  I use both Sage Leaves and Incense for smudging crystals.  I recommend using Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Sage, or Nag Champa Incense Sticks.  I like to find smudging sticks that are sometimes made up of a combination of various plants including sage and lavender.  This is also a great method for crystals that should not come in contact with water or salt water.

You will need:

  • Sage leaf bundle, Sage and Sweet Grass smudge stick,  or incense stick
  • The crystal
  • Sea Salt dissolved in Spring Water. *optional

Run the Sea Salt Water over both your hands (saving enough to repeat the process after you are finished smudging) and choose a place to smudge near a surface that will not be damaged by the ash from your Sage Leaf or Incense.

Pass your crystal through the smoke from the smudging material, or fan the smoke over and around all sides of your crystal several times.

Once you have completed smudging your crystal run the remaining Sea Salt water over your hands.  As you are moving through the above steps above, remember to focus your intent on the task at hand.
